Fidan Criticizes Israel’s Aggression Across Middle East
Speaking during a United Nations Security Council session focused on developments in the region, Fidan asserted that “Israel is trying to implement its strategy of aggression not only in Palestine, but also in Lebanon, Syria and Iran.”
He elaborated on this point by indicating that Israel’s actions are part of a recurring approach that, if not curtailed, could lead to widespread instability.
“There is a clear pattern here. If left unchecked, this pattern risks wider destabilization,” he warned. Citing Syria as a current example, he claimed that Israeli strikes are putting at risk the delicate peace achieved through significant sacrifices by the Syrian population.
He further remarked that these offensives are intensifying ethnic divisions throughout the area.
Highlighting his belief that Israel is not interested in fostering peace or equilibrium in the Middle East, Fidan called on the Security Council to act in unison to prevent Syria from plunging into renewed chaos.
He urged that the Council “collectively” ensure Syria avoids further turmoil.
Turning his focus to the situation in Gaza, Fidan described Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Palestinians as a genocidal operation that continues “unabated.”
He painted a grim picture of the humanitarian crisis in the territory, noting that “Over two million people are enduring unspeakable suffering in the Gaza Strip.”
He mentioned that widespread destruction and the forced movement of people persist, while essential humanitarian assistance is intentionally blocked.
According to Fidan, civilians are being ruthlessly targeted even while trying to collect basic supplies like food and water.
He accused Israel of using starvation as a tactical method in its warfare, asserting that “There is no single principle of international humanitarian law that is not violated by Israel.”
His statements reflect a deep concern over the legal and ethical implications of Israel's ongoing military operations, and he urged international accountability for the humanitarian fallout.
