Lebanon Warns of Escalating Israeli Strikes Despite Ceasefire
Speaking at a press conference in Beirut, Salam said Israel’s actions amounted to a broader campaign of destruction that was not limited to specific targets in Lebanon.
“Israel is pursuing a policy of comprehensive destruction that goes beyond targeting specific locations in Lebanon. What Israel is doing is not only a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty but also an attempt to erase history,” he said.
He added that Lebanon is currently facing “dangerous and unprecedented Israeli attacks,” emphasizing the severity of the situation.
The prime minister reiterated that Lebanon remains committed to ending the conflict and preventing the country from being drawn into regional confrontations.
He also stated that Israel cannot achieve security through military force and destruction.
Regarding US-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel, Salam said the Lebanese state is representing its citizens in negotiations and stressed that the process is aimed at achieving a ceasefire.
“There is no guarantee that the negotiations will succeed, but this is the least costly option for Lebanon and our people,” he said.
“Does negotiation mean surrender? No. The professional work of the negotiating team is aimed at securing a ceasefire,” he added.
Salam also addressed residents displaced by violence in southern Lebanon, saying the government would continue efforts toward securing calm and supporting future reconstruction efforts.
