Israel Requests US Approval to Expand Air Campaign into Beirut
According to reports, Israel’s Channel 12 stated that Israeli officials have formally approached Washington with requests to authorize an expansion of military activity, potentially extending strikes into Beirut.
The report said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has argued that restricting operations to areas outside the capital limits the effectiveness of Israel’s objectives, insisting that Beirut should not be exempt from the scope of military action.
It was also noted that the Israeli military recently presented several operational plans to political leadership. These plans reportedly include scenarios involving airstrikes in Beirut, along with measures such as civilian evacuation procedures.
According to reports, an Israeli official claimed that the US administration under President Donald Trump has shown increased openness to the idea, though no final decision or approval has been issued.
The report further emphasized that Israeli military actions remain subject to US-imposed constraints.
No official response from US authorities was immediately available regarding these claims.
Reports also recalled that Israeli operations in Lebanon have continued despite a ceasefire that came into effect on April 17, later extended for 45 days beginning May 17 after indirect negotiations mediated by the United States. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, more than 3,400 people have been killed across Lebanon since March 2 as a result of ongoing attacks.
