Lebanese Government Stresses Unity Ahead of Talks with Israel
Speaking after a parliamentary questioning session, Salam described the trilateral framework involving the United States as a “political framework” rather than a legally binding treaty or agreement.
He said the framework outlines a gradual Israeli withdrawal and requires the Lebanese state to have exclusive sovereignty over its territory.
“I do not claim that the results we want have been achieved. The attacks have not stopped, Israel has not yet withdrawn from all Lebanese territory, a large number of our prisoners remain detained, and many of our people are still unable to return to their towns and villages,” Salam said.
Salam acknowledged that Lebanon has yet to achieve all of its objectives, but stressed that diplomatic negotiations remain ongoing.
He said Lebanon’s position in the talks can be strengthened when political and national support is consolidated behind state institutions.
“The more we strengthen our national unity and extend the authority of the state alone over all its territory, the more we strengthen our sources of power and our ability to secure our rights,” he added.
